Evaluation and Reflection

Pre-Production

Describe your ideas process?

A short film about about bullying came about due to research I do. I saw a clip that made me think that someone helping someone who was bullied to report what happened would be a good story.

How did you shape your idea?

I thought about what could be in the story. My teacher help me summaries the ideas into a script. I went with a teacher being the bully and another member of the class coming out to help them after they ran out. I could then have some close up shots and long shots as well as the conversation and some continuity editing.

What did you find challenging about this process? I found the story board challenging because I’m not very good at drawing. I attempted it but couldn’t complete it.

How would you approach it differently.

I would go over my production paperwork before filming so i could remember each part of the filming. My teacher said i should film over the shoulders for the conversation. I should have changed my shot list so I could not forget to do this.

Describe your planning process?

Once i sat down with my teacher and we did a script the production planning was straightforward. I did shot list, then did risk assessment and recce report. I took some pictures of the locations. I put all my planning paperwork on teams so both my teachers could see them.

What did you learn or need to recap in your planning process?

I learnt about how to layout a simple script and that you don’t need to see all the action such as someone being bullied to get the story.

Production

What technical roles did you do? e.g. filming, directing, sound?

I did the film and directing. I was telling the actors what do and how I wanted it be filmed. I was taking different types of shot for example close up, medium shot and long shot.

What challenges did you come across and how did you deal with them? I didn’t take shots of the over shoulders. Also I didn’t follow everything on the scrip miss a shot of last scene. and I needed help with the sound.

What was good in the filming process? The filming went well I did most of the shots I was suppose to do.

What could have gone better in the filming process?

Over the shoulder should would have made this better.

How did the planning help you in your filming process?

I was more or less organized and had everything in place with some expectations. Which I have already explained such as not putting in the over the shoulder shots in the shot list.

Post – Production

What editing techniques did you use and explain your process (add in screen shots)

Did you have any challenges with the editing process? the problem I had was cutting the clips to make it smooth. also I needed help with the putting the transition in the right place. I used dip t black at the end and dissolve cross in the story.

If so explain what you did to over come them.

I needed a little support from my teacher to remind me how to put in transitions but i choose which transitions myself. With it being smoother my teacher helped me again but asked me lots of questions about the timing to I had input into how to make it smoother.

Did you try and stretch your skills and learn something new?

I learn how to smooth out the clips. Instead of using the razor tool you can just hide the beginning and end of clip by dragging the curser. I also need to trust my gut with the timing. If it’s too long it probably is.

What would you do improve the edit? Explain in detail.

I would film the over the shoulder shots to have more of a conversation between the two characters. I would have added some effects like slow motion when he was running out the door and down the corridor.
